Fans of Gerry Anderson's UFO will be interested to learn that Matthew Gratzner, director of the planned feature film remake, has given an interview to Forbidden Planet.com. With a reported $130 million budget, and plans to make the movie the first of a trilogy, Gratzner hopes to take UFO back to its roots in the style of Batman Begins and Casino Royale.

In what will come as refreshing news to many followers of the cult seventies SF show, the visual effects expert who has worked on such films as Iron Man, War of the Worlds and The Aviator, displays a deep understanding of the original series and an appreciation of what it was that made it special to so many. "There's a reason UFO has a following, there's a reason that Gerry Anderson has a following, and for us to overlook that or take that for granted would be foolish."

Taken from a series of three meetings with Gratzner over the autumn, the interview reveals the director's key views on such matters as the movie's visual style, potential casting and the possible use of Barry Gray's famous incidental music.
