"Send a message out across the sky...."

So began the theme song for Star Fleet, the 1980s Japanese puppet series inspired by the work of Gerry Anderson and Star Wars. Now a fully remastered soundtrack of this great show is available for fans to buy.

The release marks something of a resurgence for the show, with the CD following the release of the DVD box set in February last year.

Set over 24 half hour episodes, Star Fleet follows the adventures of the X-Bomber in its fight against the evil Imperial Alliance to protect the F-Zero-One, a mysterious force that has the power to bring peace to the universe...

The CD comes with a 16 page full colour liner booklet featuring notes from Paul Bliss, a short introduction from Louis Elman, the producer / director of the English dub, and a detailed series overview by ex-Fanderson Chairman and writer Chris Bentley. The tracks have been compiled into episodic suites in the order they are first heard on screen.

Even today, the show is often primarily remembered for Brian May's cover version of Bliss's theme song - 'The Star Fleet Project'. You can listen to the series theme and original episode soundtrack clips here

Produced by Cosmo Productions and Jin Productions, and first aired on Fuji TV with the original title of 'X-Bomber', Star Fleet mixes Anime staples such as a giant 'mecha' robot with puppetry techniques more akin to western sci-fi series. The show was dubbed into English and first broadcast in 1982.
