Well, it certainly looks good to me!

There are some new track titles there - presumably, but not necessarily, the 'new' material? Otherwise I'd be inclined to say that people on limited or non-existent budgets (and who already have the first release) still won't be able to decide exactly what is the 'new' material on the album.

Other than that, looks good. Glad I put my order in right at the start....

Default Whats Missing

Hi. When you say you`ve had to make space for the new tracks, exactly what tracks will be missing from the new version?

Looking at the differences in the track titles and track lengths, my guess is the following:

The new tracks appear to be:

* Century 21 Sting [0:08]
* Micro Jazz [0:56]
* Riders, Hippies and Aliens [4:38]
* Recovery [2:17]
* The Leisure Sphere [2:18]
* Mexicans! [1:06]
* Spacewalk [4:55]
* Travelling Home [3:15]
* Fit For Duty [1:04]
* Depart And Return [0:13]
* UFO Fly-by [0:19]
* Cat Call [2:44]
* Girl In A Sports Car [3:14]
* Recalling Tim [1:58]
* Not Exactly Normal [2:56]
* Amnesia Café [1:16]

They appear to have dropped the following music
from the original CD:

* Commercial break sting 1 [0:09]
* Commercial break sting 2 [0:07]
* Identified alternate score [10:10]
* Exposed alternate cues [2:04]
* "Strakers theme" alterative cue [1:01]
* The Lovers [4:10]

The following tracks appear to be the same
on both the old and new CD:

* UFO Main Theme (stereo) [1:10]
* Red Alert [2:41]
* Operation In Progress [4:36]
* Sky One [1:25]
* Flashback [1:05]
* New Suit, New Wife [3:42]
* Beginning To Take Shape [5:09]
* The Choice [3:38]
* Newborn [3:50]
* Alien Sniper [1:21]
* The Answer [1:53]
* The Crevasse [3:08]
* Skydiver [0:55]
* Crash Landing [2:56]
* End Titles (stereo) [1:13]
* UFO Main Theme (mono) [1:10]
* The Test Pilot [2:14]
* Rupert Square [2:38]
* Welcome To SHADO [1:36]
* Ambush [3:50]
* Washington Square [1:12]
* Shallow Re-entry [2:45]
* Complete Shutdown [2:16]
* Space Junk [2:36]
* A Day At The Film Studios [4:16]
* You Always Had To Leave [5:23]
* Who Are You? [3:32]
* A Question of Priorities [2:10]
* The Game Warden [3:54]
* Squaring The Triangle [5:41]
* Back To The Triangle [2:46]
* The Trip [2:22]
* The Long Sleep [3:31]
* End Titles (mono) [1:04]

The following tracks have different lengths:

Yellow Alert [2:29] -- was 2:43
The Long Finger Of Tragic Coincidence [1:25] -- was 4:30
Stranded [5:45] -- was 6:21
Strange Bedfellows [3:52] -- was 4:17
A Rose For Sylvia [1:39] -- was 2:22
Taken [1:42] -- was 1:56
The Dreambox [2:26] -- was 1:16
Positive Track [0:44] -- was 1:40
The Co-pilot’s Sister [4:10] -- was 4:42
We Must Come To Earth To Survive! [4:24] -- was "E.S.P." 3:35
The Cottage [3:26] -- was 5:14

It appears that they are mostly dropping music that was never heard in the series in the first place (alternate cues, rejected music), and replacing it with music that was. I think this is a good move.

Generally, I think so too. I never really liked the 'rejected' score for the first episode anyway

I must say that I'm a bit disappointed that 'The Lovers' cue might have got the bullet from the second disc; I actually thought the pieces that made up this cue (particularly the very pastoral and melodic second piece) were some of Barry's best music. It also - like much of CD 2 - made a change from some of the more turgid suspense tracks and 'UFO Theme' variations on the first CD. I guess if its gone it's because it was used more as source music?

Oh well. At least I've got it on the first CD set.

Yes, that was one of flaws (I thought) with the original CD -- too much emphasis on rejected music, while not including memorable music actually heard in the series. With this new track list, it appears that we'll actually get to hear something from THE SOUND OF SILENCE, PSYCHOBOMBS, MINDBENDER, and THE CAT WITH TEN LIVES.

Heck, I'll buy this CD just for the track "Remembering Tim",,, has more "lost" music from THE LONG SLEEP been discovered?!!

Marc

Unhappy

Oh dear. To me its a big shame that tracks on this release has to be dropped or shortened at all. Why not make it a three disc set? And if theres not enough music to fill a third disc then just fill it out with some Barry Gray sound effects Its probably all too late for that now though.
