Even if all the original cast were still around they would be too old for regular appearances so in the unlikely event a new series was made I think it would just start afresh although the odd cameo as you suggest would be appealing for fans of the original.

Over the decades ITC shows and Anderson in particular have been mentioned for remakes many times.
Remember the UFO movie? The Persuaders movie?

Of the series that did get remade Randall and Hopkirk was appalling and Thunderbirds has been done as cheaply as possibly to sell lines of merchandise.

Space 1999 (like most Anderson and ITC shows) has a great premise but people involved in remakes never seem to understand exactly what the ingredients were that made the originals a success.
Just being in the right place at the right time with the right cast has a lot to do with it and is something that cannot be recreated
