The only behind the scene stuff i know, it's the documentary on the UK DVD Box Set. I've never seen another stuff like that.

Is there additional extras on the DVD box set that don't appear on the individual five DVD volumes from Carlton Video? I don't recall seeing any behind the scenes footage from Scarlet on these discs?

The Carlton Captain Scarlet boxset came with a sixth disc that included a Making of.. documentary and all the variations of the opening credits.

im pretty sure there was a documentary, but Im not sure if it was footage, I seem to remember them showing the explosion of the maximum security building and Derek Meddings working on it, but it may have been photographs they showed and not film.

I have just re-watched the S.I.G documentary this afternoon. I must admit to being slightly disappointed with it. Although interesting there is no behind the scenes footage at all. There are about a dozen or so production photos, but again these are the ones most fans have seen before.
The only behind the scenes stuff is the filming of the Scarlet and Blue dialogue being recorded.
My disappointment must stem from being spolit by the Supercar, XL5, UFo and Space 1999 documentaries.

Maybe they aren't behind the scene stuff apart the pictures seen in the DVD.

Im pretty sure it was broadcast before Captain scarlet was re showin in the mid 90s. not sure when that was.
and as I say, I may be mistaken, but I always thought it was in the same style as the behind the scenes footage of thunderbirds.

Mike, I agree with you ,I remember behind the scenes footage . I remember part of it being to do with the angel interceptors and the rolling sky back ground . It was a long time ago though , it may even have been around the time of its original transmission

Been having another think about this . It's certainley pre '75 because I saw it at my original home . The thing thats bugging me is that I think it was on YTV on the regional news programme Calender with Richard Whitley. The problem I have with that though is I don't think YTV was around at the time of original CS transmission . So the thing I'm trying to grab at here is , could the behind the scenes footage have been done by a regional news programme which may or may not have been YTV?

Yorkshire Television didn't commence broadcasting until July 1968 after the ITV franchise reshuffle so it's likely that the footage you refer to would have come from Granada.
I hope that this info helps.:)

Hi Picasso61, thanks for the info . With this in mind , would Granada have filmed this or would it be filmed by a separate company and distibuted to the various regions ?
I'm sure something exists though I clearly remember the angels against the sky backdrop .

I would've thought that if it was on the regional news programme likely as not the local ITV company (Granada) would've reported/filmed this and then distributed onto the ITV network. As this was 1967 the film would've been shot in black and white. I'd like to see this behind the scenes film - no doubt others would too.

I believe there was a children's TV programme in the sixties, which may have been called 'Come Here Often', that might have included a behind the scenes feature about Captain Scarlet. I think attempts have been made to track down the material, but so far it looks as if it no longer exists. Regarding Mike's memory of something more recent - I wonder if there might have been a TV feature about the '21st Century Visions' book, as the images he describes are ones featured in it, perhaps linked to some clips. I should know, having written the thing, and I have a vague memory of there being some kind of promo piece on a Saturday morning kid's show, but can't remember anything more definite.

I remember a really good piece being broadcast in the sixties on a show called Magpie - ITV's rival to Blue Peter.
It showed them making the episode where Destiny Angel is the target and you saw them setting up the scene where one of the other Angels is flying in to shoot down the mysteronised aircraft (another Angel interceptor if I'm not mistaken). They also showed you around the studio with rolling sky and the puppet set.
What would we give to see that again!

Same here - I remember Magpie IMO never as good as Blue Peter but I thought the show had a great theme. I wonder if that particular edition of the programme is still around.....:)

Unfortunately alot of the Magpie episodes no longer exist in the Thames/Freemantle library. I am doing some research to see if the relevent edition still survives.

Was this behind the scenes feature definitely in Magpie ? I thought Magpie wasn't on air until well after Cptain Scarlet finished production - or even transmission ? Is it possible it could also have been part of the 'Come Here Often' programme ? Shame that so few editions of Magpie appear to have survived - I belive they did do a feature on The Secret Service with the puppet sized Model T which has probably been lost.

Magpie started in the summer of 1968, so its possible they showed behind the scenes on Scarlet when they were covering The Secret Service. I'm doing some research this weekend to see what editions of Magpie still exist.

It'll be interesting to see the results of your research, Silent Bob particularly if anything survives of the Captain Scarlet/ Secret Service reports. Fingers and toes crossed.:)
