On the DVD release of Dick Spanner - Gerry is interviewed in his office at Pinewood and talks about Supercar being filmed in colour?
Is this just a mistake on Gerry's part or is there a possibility that this does exist in colour somewhere. If it was an error - can't believe it was left in.

I find that whole interview a joke to be honest, and the quality of the presentation was terrible. What was with the giant blue border surrounding the picture? Why did the person seem to not know anything about Gerry's work apart from a glance at wikipedia? I felt bad for Gerry, I really did. I enjoyed his story about The Apollo astronaut and the cartoon drawing of Stingray being filmed though, just wish the interviewer had done her research.
The DVD isn't much better. Why is it that the VHS tapes are pretty good quality, and the DVD's are far worse? Why did they change the soundtrack? Argh! It's a great show, so why ruin it?

I can't imagine Gerry Anderson making a mistake about one of his productions. I haven't seen this but reading through Hiram's post the whole thing does sound like an enormous joke.

I think that interview itself is worth having because it captures Gerry in his office in Pinewood that he has now moved out of and some of the items went into his auction.
I agree that it is terribly done and redefines low budget - had it been made in the 80s might have got away with it but this is only a few years ago. Some of the items are interesting but other you just want to shout - NEXT.

I haven't seen this interview, so I don't know what the context of the remarks Gerry made were, but is it possible it might have been a slip of the tongue, and he meant Stingray ? Also, it has been known for Gerry to get things wrong in interviews - I remember going to one talk he gave which was peppered with errors, and then saw him give a similar talk a few months later which seemed to have had the mistakes corrected !
Going back to the subject of Supercar - this week marks the 50th anniversary of Gerry directing the first episode of the series, so there's something else for the forum to celebrate !

I don't think I'd enjoy Supercar or for that matter XL5 as much in colour. In these two shows black and white is an extremely important aspect. It's how I first saw them and how I remember them, and it's how I enjoy watching them now. Colour versions for me, would be nothing more than a curio, and if they were available in colour, I think I'd watch the black and white versions more. I am a huge life long passionate fan of Laurel and Hardy, and as well done as I think the colourised versions of their work is. I always enjoy the proper black and white versions more, and I think this would be the same for Supercar and XL5.

I'd agree as far as Fireball goes - there's some wonderful lighting and photography in the series which works really well in black and white. I certainly didn't think the colourised episode that Network produced did the show any favours. Supercar might work better in colour though - I think it would suit the stories and characters.
This brings me back to the original question - and I may have been doing Gerry down in my last post, as I think there are some sources which suggest that back projection footage for Supercar was shot in colour. May be that's what he was remembering.

I enjoyed the colourised XL5 episode and would like to see more done - but I still think it looks just fine in Black & White, and seems better like that - I can't imagine the numerous desolate planets with the spooky music being as dramatic in colour.
Ditto for Laurel and Hardy, I tried watching a colour episode the other week and gave up after three minutes and put the proper B&W one on instead.

I think Gerry might be confused honestly..... As there have been some various clips colorised digitally for documentaries
For my opinion on the colorisation of them, I actually think it works..... I'd love to see them in color mainly so i'd have the true idea as to how the characters and settings look colors wise. But that's just my way of viewing, it works better for me.....

I could be wrong here, but I'm fairly certain that Fireball XL5 was Gerrys first series to be filmed in colour but was then converted back to Black And White for TV purposes.

You're probably thinking of Stingray. Fireball XL5 was filmed in black and white, although some sequences were later colourised as a test. Stingray was filmed in colour, but first screened in Black and White in the UK.
