I bought this new Network set soon after release and IMO it's just brilliant especially the colourised episode of "A Day In The Life Of A Space General" and the new documentaries "A Wonderland Of Stardust" and "Drawn In Supermarionation".
Alongside The Monochrome Years this has to be the best set released by Network.
Please comment with your thoughts.

Its definitely a nice set, unfortunately I have not been able to watch all the episodes as of yet, too much other stuff in the queue and not enough time to watch everything.

I also like the accompanying booklet and the overall design of the set. Definitely this currently takes pride of place in my collection!:)

Only having two of the Fireball annuals, it was really nice to find PDF's of all four of them. The documentaries are excellent, but there is a better interview with Mike Noble on the A & E Region 1 boxset. having said that, its still a cracking boxset all round. :)

Its a real shame that the Mike Noble special feature was not included on any other DVD release apart from the A&E R1 edition, as it is excellent.

Same goes for the Supercar set, more special features that never appeared on anything other than the R1 sets.

The FIREBALL XL5 DVD release is nice, but I would prefer the promised SPACE:1999 Year 2 DVDs first...

Hi All
I agree the Fireball XL5 Special Edition DVD Boxed set is a great item for any fan of the series.
My only real gripe is that it only includes 3 of the 4 Fireball Zoom adverts. What happened the other one?
It still exists because you can see it on the German 'Thunderbirds and Friends' web site at : http://www.thunderbirds-and-friends.de/
I would love to see Network release a fully colourised edition one day.
Regards Keith

Yes Keith - just for completeness sake. I too would love to see the whole series of Fireball XL5 in a colourised form. We can live in hope....:)

Being of an age when i can remember seeing the B & W shows in the early sixties, i really dont want to see them colourised. It was an interesting experiment with the Fireball episode, but i believe the early shows lose alot of their charm when colour is added.

Wasn't the original intention to film Fireball XL5 in colour as it was aimed primarily at the US market where colour television was already in existence?

This boxset looks and sounds brilliant but I bought the other Carlton DVD boxest last Christmas and have still not watched it all - got sidetracked on Seasons 1-4 of the Tomorrow People (oh the shame) so it seems that I now I need to go and buy it again! Christmas - hurry up.

We all have our cross to bear. :p

Mind you I am just as bad, I ordered the complete series of Catweazle from Network the other day, mind you it was the offer of the week, only £19.99 inc P+P down from £48.00. Never saw all of that series first time round, so more DVDs to pile up in the unwatched back log.:(

I like the new Fireball set - especially the extras.

I think the colourised episode looks great but 'Space General' wouldn't have been my choice to do it to. Mind you, I wouldn't mind them all in colour...but it's no big deal if it never happens. Black and white is how I remember the series anyway.

I also have the A&E set and I think that Mike Noble interview is better.

'Space General' wouldn't have been my choice to do it to.

I agree - why chose an episode that is largely set in a grey control room, featuring characters dressed in brown ? Not a great decision - particularly when the few shots you see of the main characters together look so good. Given the choice, which episode/episodes would have been better ?

Episodes which would look good colourised are IMO Planet 46, The Triads, Space Vacation, Robert To The Rescue, Flying Zodiac and 1875. Any other suggestions?

It's great to see a colourised episode, it's just a shame that they picked an episode that DOESN'T concentrate on XL5 or the main characters. Still the booklet and extras are interesting.
Anyone want to buy the old DVD???
Thought not

I agree David. A Day In The Life Of A Space General is not one of my favourite episodes save for the crash of XL5 and the explosion towards the end of Lt. Ninety's dream so that looks quite colourful and exciting. Other than that it 's quite an average episode. A better episode could've been chosen for this colourisation treatment. Still it's a great box set with all those extras.

I thought the newer HD episode in colour was fantasic, I recently purchased the Network DVD Box Set. & I give this product a 10 out of 10, Network really do a fantasic job at creating newer features etc..

Well done Network

P.S I await your Space 1999 - Year 2 box set

the doomed planetAgreed - those would look great in colour. I love seeing the one episode so far colourised but for me it wasn't the best choice - I would like to see what colour the aliens in the opening episode Planet 46 were for example - they were seen in a few others too.
