I remember reading quite a long time ago that Commander Shore was modelled on Lorne Greene from Bonanza. I haven't been able to find this information anywhere on the Internet, though and I can't remember where I first read it.

Is there any truth about Commander Shore being modelled on Lorne Greene? I know Jeff Tracy was definately based on him. Can anyone else see a resemblance between the Bonanza actor and the WASP Commander?

Possibly - however, i'm pretty sure it was Jeff Tracy who was modelled on Lorne Greene.

Thanks for the message. Jeff Tracy was definately modelled on Lorne Greene, I think I could have been mistaken about Commander Shore, I know it was a few years ago when I believed I had read about him being based on Lorne Greene.

It is well known, of course, that Troy Tempest was based on James Garner - I think out of all the characters who were based on actors, Troy is the one who resembles the actor the most.
