Now which piggy bank did I put £15,500 in?

It looks fantastic and besides not having £15.5k to spend on I am not sure where exactly I might put it. You could put it in storage and then bring it out every Christmas instead of a tree!
When was this made? The ebay advert says made in 1966 but it is a replica?

I am presuming this is the model that Martin Bower put up for auction at the Fanderson convention (Weybridge 96, I believe). I think it had lots of interest but Tony James jumped right in with a, IIRC, £700 bid and won it for this unfeasibly small amount.
I think he had it in his shop window for a fair while.
It's a great model but I think £15.5 K is far far too overpriced for it.
Cheers

The guide price was £3000-£5000 at the Battersea auction in February. Like many lots, it went unsold.

£15,500 for a display model? I'd want one that worked for that price.

Hmm, bit of a credibility gap there, methinks.

Its a beautiful model that Martin built. But surely he didn't build it in 1966? he had only just had a letter printed in TV Century 21.
Wasn't it built in the 1990's for the Thunderbirds comic, like his Fireball XL5?
Also, £15,500? a certain person at CM is getting way too greedy these days.

I'm sure that's correct. Anyone who's seen the model would never believe it was over forty years old.

The seller "Sante Claus" is, I think it's fair to say, a Division of Tony James Enterprises plc Ltd Worldwide
Of course, it's the one made by Martin for Fleetway in the 1990s but I don't think the blame for the mis-description can be laid at his door !

Also he must have been a very advanced model maker in 1966, aged about 13 years old!! :D

Just goes to show: the models they made on Blue Peter in those days were amazing! ;)

Indeed he did. Very impressive it was, too.

I hate the way eBay now suggests other items you might like, in this case a golf iron and a taxidermy plinth - because both have the words "display model" in the title.

Alot of the items from Gerry's office that did not sell at the auction are now on eBay. I'm just scared that the man himself is going to be the item on there for sale!!!

Don't you just love eBay, the search brings up all sorts of unrelated stuff.

Obviously not enough interest, too expensive or people were just hanging onto their hard earned cash, not counting the really bad weather that week, so attendance numbers were well below what was expected. So I suppose that it was obvious that the remaining unsold item's would end up on eBay.
As to the Sunprobe model, its a really cracking piece no question, but its obviously just way too much money for the recent asking price, especially in the current finacial climate, it certainly is when you consider what TJ paid for it originally.
As to Gerry being on eBay, if TJ could think of a way to do it , he would have Gerry on on auction in no time at all. :p

Its been a very long time since i have bought anything from CM. Thats because of all the stories i've been reading. Why does TJ seem to be alienating some of his most loyal customers? You would think in this current climate he would be bending over backwards to please his clients.
