Hello,

Can anyone who has received their copy of FAB64 please pass on the details of the new UFO Soundtrack including price etc. My copy of FAB has still not appeared, I think it's probably suffering from the postal strike etc. Don't want to miss out on this CD and never managed to obtain the original release. And yes, I know this smacks of desperation. Hands up, I confess!!:)

Hi Jaffa1978 - not too sure what else will be included yet - have only been told there are a few surpises. The price for the new 40th Anniversary Edition is £29.99. Don't worry about being desperate for it - I think there are a lot of people in the same situation, if I'm honest I posted my order off today!

Hopefully not, file sharing is bad enough, however when there is money involved too you never know what some people will do, even some so called Fanderson members have been guilty.

I agree with all of this, and definately that in so many ways it's best to have the original CDs that you can put on your shelf. Just wish that these people would think about the bigger picture and about other people too. If this type of stuff keeps happening the result could be that we don't get as many of these special CD releases which is bad for all of us. I'm sure Many of us would like them to come out but illegal downloading may hinder this.

Hi,

Fanderson deserve a a pat on the back, a doff of the cap, a shake of the hand and a pint down my local for their decision to re-release and revise the UFO soundtrack!!

I missed it first time round (dunno what happened there?!)
So I can't wait to get my clammy hands on the nice CD case, CD's and booklet...

Illegal downloads may be 'clever' but they are not funny - as already said here, they also can't be a replacement for the nice feeling (and sound quality) of new bona fide discs!!
(anyone up for starting an anti-MP3 thread!!)

I missed it as well - I think it sold so quickly it was only on a couple of sales lists and I must have been short of cash (brains) or bought something else of the sales list instead.

Glad it wasn't just me who missed out!
I think I saw the first mention of it in the Fanderson Sales leaflet, thought 'I must get that at some stage' saw it a second time, thought 'I must get that at some stage' and then it was sold out!! thinking about it, I may have paid out for something else (trip to Silverstone Classic) at the time and thought I might be pushing my luck with my Wife's patience for my 'little indulgences'!!! ;)

Yes, that is a bit odd... I was thinking that if they're going to be adding new music to this release, then they probably should drop the unused cues from IDENTIFIED to make room for it.

Also, I hope they are planning on remixing the few cues that didn't sound much like the original music heard in the series. The fast-paced music where Foster get roughed up by thugs in EXPOSED seems particularly unfaithful to the original (and I've wondered if that was even the correct "take" of that music.)

Hi all,

Am also excited about this news as I missed the first release.

A few questions...

1) Is the cover art on the Fanderson site final? Seems kinda drab to me.

2) Has the Silva Screen one disc release been scrapped?

3) Will Space:1999 Year 2 be re-released (or Y1 for that matter)?

Thanks!
Anthony

It looks pretty final... :-)

But what would you recommend as an alternative? The original release had Moonbase Interceptors ready for liftoff on the front, and Moonbase on the back:

http://ufoseries.com/music/fandersonCDjewel.jpg

Very hardware oriented. Perhaps something with a photo of Straker, Lt. Ellis, etc. would add a bit of humanity to it?

Hmmm. Well, I don't really mind the cover for the 40th Anniversary CD (assuming that's the final one, which it may not be I suppose...) although I would have preferred something that shows the 'action' side of UFO - not the phrase I want, but it'll do for now - and I guess that does mean a 'hardware' shot!

On the subject of covers, I could never understand why the covers for the Fanderson releases of Year 1 and Year 2 of Space:1999 were so dull (and repeated for each release too...)

I don't know what Chris B was thinking.... ;)

I thought the first release had cool photos front/rear. On second look, the 40th isn't that bad, I just liked the first release better.

The front cover design is indeed final... ish!

To be honest I have always loved the clean and simple design of the club's soundtracks. It's nice to have something a bit clean and neutral on the cover, so it can 'reflect' whatever you want on it.

I've liked all the cover designs too (I certainly liked UFO, and I don't think the 40th Anniversary cover is at all bad either).

But I did think the Space:1999 front covers were amazingly dull, and I was particularly surprised that the same cover - with slight variations - was again used for Year 2. I am sure that a cover which reflected the action/adventure and colour of the latter season could have been found; even the cover of the Year 2 promotional disc was more attractive, I thought.

I agree. I like the Fanderson covers. Clean and unfussy. But then they have no need to grab the attention of punters!

Interesting to see that the new release is to be in a DVD-style case. Are Fanderson going the route of Network?

(BTW I take it that the "140 mins approx" is very approx!)

Crackin' stuff!
Thanks again to all who took part in getting this out...
I'm typing a new chapter of a book on the "Warminster Mystery" as I listen to the CD.
Memories come flooding back of halycon days and nights spent on Cradle Hill, watching for "real" UFOs...
The music of 'Tangerine Dream" was our sountrack, if only we had the UFO soundtrack in those days.
Barry was indeed an understated gem of a composer!

It's a good question, although I would imagine the reason no one else (other than 'ufokev', who hasn't mentioned any detail as to what the CD actually contains....) has posted anything about the new CD yet is because they haven't received it. They only started sending them at the end of the week and that's a big job.

It seems that I spoke too soon yesterday morning, I got the delivery I was waiting for by 2.00pm, and then had to out for a couple of hours.

I get back at about 4.15pm to see that the postman has been, although he called extremely late in the afternoon, much later than any other day, and a pile of Fanderson orders were sat on my doormat, typical.

Its high time Fanderson Sales accepted Paypal.

Its easy to add a Paypal link to any part of the site and you can change the price to make up for the Paypal commission as other retailers who accpt Paypal sometimes do.

I'd have bought Stingray and UFO cd's long before now if I'd been able to use Paypal .

It's got to be easier than messing about with order forms etc

Hopefully at some point during 2010.

It won't speed up orders but will be another option for paying.

In the meantime it takes a few minutes to send an order in the post and hundreds of members do that regularly.

I quite agree. What with the banks planning to do away with cheques in eight years time, there will have to be some changes anyway in payment methods eventually. But I for one have never had a problem in filling out a form and putting it in the post.

The service provided by the Sales team has always been extremely quick in my experience - Paypal wouldn't improve on that (although I suppose inevitably it would be more convenient for those who can't be bothered to walk to a post box!)

I post out ebay items most days so its nothing to do with not being bothered.
When the Paypal funds are in my account it would be handy to simply pay Fanderson for some goods without connecting the printer to my laptop , printing out the order form and filling it in .
It also means I can pay for the item instantly without wondering whether I need to make sure funds are available for a cheque/ card payment to be cashed in a few days or a few weeks or even if the cheque has even arrived.

And quite obviously Paypal WOULD improve on current Fanderson service as they would have payment instantly , not be waiting to receive your cheque , then put it in the bank and then get the funds.

I imagine its slightly easier if they take payment via card details but its still not as quick as Paypal

Back to the cd's and a few days ago I took delivery of a new PS3 slim 250Gb.

I had the old 40Gb one a couple of years ago but I wanted to be multiregion for Bluray so I sold the PS3 and bought a Panasonic player and I was happy being able to play all US Blurays too.

However , I missed the music storage of the PS3 and my Pioneer Hard Drive recorder simply wasn't up to the job even with a Gracenote Database built in.

Amazon Warehouse Deals chopped £90 off the price of the PS3 for a damaged outer box so I bought one sooner than I intended.

I was pleased to find that the Sleeping Astronauts cd and both of Fandersons 2 disc Space 1999 cd sets had been sorted on Gracenote but the International Concerto one had not.

How soon can we expect the new UFO cd info to be available via the PS3's wireless connection to Gracenote?

I was surprised to see some of the Network cd soundtracks like The Prisoner had info available but their recent 2 disc Music of ITC did not.

What about Stingray ? Has that been done yet ?

No - what Theo means is that you're quite free to input the CD track names in yourself and send them to Gracenote (or whatever database). I've done this for various CDs in the past when I have ripped them using iTunes (which uses a Gracenote database).

He was saying that you don't need to wait for someone else to do it. If you have the CDs and the booklet with the tracklistings, just type them in yourself and then send them to the database.

If I rip a CD through iTunes, if I am connected to the Internet it will automatically insert tracknames if the information has been submitted to the database (as I say, I think it uses the Gracenote database, or a version of it).

If not, you have to manually type it all in and then there is an option to submit the tracknames to the iTunes database. Not sure how other databases work sorry, but that's how it works in iTunes. Oh, and I think you have to be signed in to iTunes (ie have an account) to do this.

I'm not sure about the direct-to-Gracenote route; maybe Theo can advise.
