I have not seen many episodes of Space: 1999, but I know of the series' history and the major differences between Series 1 and 2. I have always been very surprised that after a few characters (including the professor played by Barry Morse) left between series that they were never mentioned again in the script. Considering what a high-budget series Space: 1999 was, and the quality of the scriptwriters, it sems odd that they never explained the characters' disappearances.
Something I have also found disappointing is how Barry Gray's music was scrapped from Series 2. Was this decided by ITC New York and Fred "The Rules of Lu-ton" Freiberger?

The rather superb articles in recent "FAB" magazine detailing how the series was put together addresses much of this.
The Morse/Bergman non-appearance has been explained in various ways depending on which 'side' you wish to choose as being correct - Morse or Anderson...

Thanks for letting me know about the article.
It was still disappoingting, though, how they never mentioned Professor Bergman in the script.

Was the music not changed in a vain effort to impress a US network? NBC?

I can recommend a book released last year DESTINATION:MOONBASE ALPHA by Robert E. Wood is an excellent read on the subject of the entire production history (behind-the-scenes) of SPACE:1999.
