Yo Earthlings,

Does anyone know why I have a video copy of Identified from the '80s recorded from TVS when we had a viewers choice and UFO was re shown[I voted MANY times...so could be my fault that one!] that has the titles after the "UFO" merge,ie just after Strakers car crash...far more dramatic I thought!!!

That's interesting. You should do a capture and upload to youtube for all to see.

I've often wondered why ITV4 insist on repeating really old, dirty prints of UFO when the DVD version from Carlton (which they still advertise at the end of every episode) is much sharper, brighter and cleaner (ie no specs of dirt on the film)

Broadcasters do like to fiddle around with things, sometimes for no apparent reason. When the BBC showed Joe 90 around 1994, they changed the position of the title sequence so it no longer began with a teaser (and changed the logo!)

I seem to recall HTV did the same thing with UFO a couple of times in the 80s. The BBC used to do the opposite with the original Star Trek - ie put the credits before the teaser.

The reason that the Joe 90 logo was changed was because Hasbro complained that it looked too much like their logo for G.I. Joe.

I have no idea why you have a video copy of Identified from the '80s recorded from TVS other than maybe it was on TVS and you recorded it then but I do recall the viewers' choice business. The opening credits were frequently cut out as I guess they were considered redundant.

Interesting replys... I must admit that as a dramatic tool, the episodes sit much better with the teaser and then....probably the best ever.....the titles!! I agree about ITV4's presentation, the remastered DVD's make the show look like a new production.Wonderful, especially the new Australian box set....
I just hope that should a UFO movie come to pass that the producers use Barry Gray's timeless score...won't happen though. It will bevery dissapointing...It'll probably have humour too.Ah well.

I've got that on video too - TVS did the same for Exposed and Destruction, I think. It never even occurred to me that the titles weren't supposed to be after the teaser. It made perfect sense, in fact, since the teaser was set in 1970, to have that first, then go into the titles as a way of projecting the action forward ten years. It certainly came as something of a shock when I eventually saw the episode properly with the titles at the beginning.

Hi Andrew

We meet again on another forum ! I'm not a 100% sure, but I think the original intention was for the title sequence to run after the teaser - at least for some episodes, including Identified, and I think this was also the original intention with some epsodes of Joe 90 . The 80s HTV recordings I have of Identified and Square Triangle show the teasers first, but other episodes don't, and I seem to recall from the original 70s transmissions that the titles didn't always come right at the start.
