Over all the years that I have been a member of Fanderson I don't think that I've seen or read any articles about the contribution that Reg Hill made to all of Gerry's series. Is there a particular reason for this A'la Sylvia Anderson, which I fully understand, or have I just been blind and missed something ?

It's a very good point, and I don't know why Reg's contribution to the APF/Century 21 productions hasn't been given more recognition. I'm not aware of any particular 'Sylvia' factor, although Reg himself never seemed very interested in publicising his contribution to the shows. I remember seeing one interview he did back in the late 70s for Starburst magazine, and I think he went to at least one Fanderson convention, but he wasn't interested in being interviewed for the Derek Meddings book I worked on - I still have the very short letter he wrote turning down the request. However he seemed to have some sort of involvement shortly before he died with the people responsible with the attempt to produce a Supercar comic a few years ago. His work with Gerry really deserves an in-depth article in FAB magazine IMO.

It can be the way of things... that some - despite having a major influence on the direction of a production - have little or no desire to be interviewed. I've encountered this with some (non-Anderson) related interviews I've wanted to do.

Yes generally speaking at the end of the day it is mostly down to the individual and if they want to talk, be interviewed, or sign autographs - some just aren't interested, mores the pity. Thats why I really enjoyed the interview with Shaun in the latest Andersonic, it was a real treat.

As for Reg, most Anderson fans know just how important he was to the productions and over the years many other people have mentioned and praised him.

I'm sure I remembered FAB doing one article on him and found it in issue 39 where David Lane, Ed Bishop and Gerry write about him - not sure if there was more. Maybe time for another?

I've been in touch with his family, and I proposed an article about Reg to them. They have some nice material from the AP Films days. I'll let you know if they agree.

I was wondering if he had any family... that's brilliant news, Martin. The best of luck, and look forward to seeing it at some point.

Would definitely love to see something focused on Reg's work with Gerry.

That would make an excellent article Martin, good luck with it!

If you'd like any help with the article Martin. please let me know - I believe Reg had four children, so between them, hopefully they should have some good memories of his work.

I had a quick look at the piece in issue 39 - it's very nice, but it is a bit brief and more of a tribute. And although I'm sure most fans will know Reg's name and realise he was an important member of the APF/Century 21 team, they may be less aware of what his contribution actually was. I know I'd love to know more about his work on the shows and the influence he had on their production.

Ditto regarding John Read. Watching the 'Supercar' dvds, I thought the attention to the lighting was exceptional. Did anyone ever interview him?

I was fortunate enough to interview John twice personally, and was present for an interview he did for the Full Boost Vertical documentary. A lovely man, but extremely quiet and unassuming, and not a natural raconteur. A talented technician and craftsman, but very much one of the 'back-room' boys.
