I received my copy of the Stingray Soundtrack yesterday (awesome!!!) and I was struck by just how much jazz music there is particularly on CD2. Several variations on the same theme but great stuff all the same. Was this his idea or did it come from Gerry etc? I know several of these tunes were used throughout the shows. Makes me wonder if he did much jazz material outisde of his work for Gerry.:)

I doubt the idea came from Gerry (although I suppose Gerry might claim it did...). That was the music of the time, and the session musicians came from a jazz/swing background, so I suppose it was really something of a natural progression, led by Barry himself.

STINGRAY really is a great score. I love those deep brass chords in moments of danger; always did.

That's right, in the late '50's /early '60's 'Trad Jazz', as it was known, was very popular in the UK.
You can hear the jazz influence on Barry's Fireball XL5 tracks too, particularly with 'Formula 5' which is a sort of rework of Dave Brubeck's classic, 'Take 5'

I remember alot of that style of music being used on the Trade Test Transmission films that used to be on daytime BBC 2.
Older British TV fans will know what im on about. :)
